Sports Podiatry

What is Sports Podiatry?

Sports Podiatry is the application of knowledge and expertise relating to the foot in sports. It is a very broad and deep subject of study which involves intricate knowledge of not only how the foot works but how this applies to the individual sport.

Exercise and strength prescription is crucial if you are an athlete, recreational runner or looking to return to activity after suffering an injury. We are extremely passionate about helping you to create long-lasting health for you from the ground up.

While most of us know that exercise is beneficial for us, starting or returning to physical activity can be daunting and usually occurs in injury. That’s why we work with you to help strengthen and condition your body so you have the confidence and freedom to move, enjoy, grow and do more of what you love.

If you are an athlete, sports enthusiast or you want to take your exercise routine to another level, book an appointment with one of our Sports podiatrists. Your sports podiatry specialist will be able to share their experiences with you and support you on your journey to complete health.

As a major part of supporting you with a foot up approach, we include:

  • Nutrition review (how what you eat affects your feet)
  • Level and frequency of exercise (load dosing)
  • Strengthening of muscles, ligaments and tendons (load management)
  • Massage of legs, shins and feet to recover faster (rehabilitative)
  • How to reduce any pain or discomfort when exercising (Preventative)

Here at Footfocus Podiatry, we can advise you on the most appropriate foot health strategies to maximise your performance. We do this by gaining a full understanding of your foot structure, how your foot functions and how this is affected when you walk or run.

Our Footfocus Podiatry approach

Our 5-step process is designed entirely for you and your ongoing foot health and general wellbeing:

Step 1: You talk, we listen. We want to get the fullest understanding possible of what issues you are experiencing, and how they might be related. No detail is too small.

Step 2: We’ll assess your foot and leg using a variety of diagnostic tools and techniques.

Step 3: Throughout the diagnostic process, we’ll let you see what’s happening and why, and explain our findings in simple, plain English.

Step 4: We start doing our job and getting you better. This might include multiple treatments and different techniques, so we will keep you informed every step of the way.

Step 5: We stay with you, supporting you through recovery and moving you into preventative foot care, keeping the spring in your step for years to come.
