Fungal Nail Infection

Anyone can get a fungal nail infection at any point in their lives and it can form in either your fingernails or your toenails.

A fungal nail infection can cause the nail to discolour, lose its shape or even become brittle and break off.

An infection may not be obvious to see straight away but as it progresses, the infection can cause:

  • The nail to become discoloured; it can turn green, yellow or even black in some cases
  • Discomfort or pain
  • The skin around the nail to itch, crack slightly, become really sore or swollen and red

A fungal nail infection usually occurs as a result of fungus from athlete’s foot. The fungus likes dark and moist areas so will typically aim for the feet. These types of fungi are not harmful but can multiply over time, which can cause an infection.

Here at Footfocus Podiatry, we can diagnose a suspected fungal nail infection by using our advanced in-house diagnosis laboratory testing. Our state of the art technology boasts a 95% accuracy rating, meaning you can get back to doing the things you love quicker and pain-free.
